Our staff come from a variety of backgrounds, from locals to people from other states or countries.

The staff at YMCA Camp Wiyaka go through a hiring process that involves an interview, three reference checks and a criminal background check. Our staff training lasts for one week and covers topics such as child abuse prevention, Red Cross CPR and behavior management strategies. During this week we train to become more knowledgeable about working with campers as well as each other. Our primary responsibility is the safety – both physical and emotional – of the campers, and we take this role very seriously. Some of our staff have been at camp for many years and for some it will be their first summer. One thing we all have in common is that we value the experience of camp above anything else we could do with our summer.
